By regularly measuring the content of water in oil, alkalinity reserve (BN, formerly TBN), oil viscosity, salt water and soot contamination, a trend in oil condition can be observed. This provides a possibility of a practice of condition maintenance of the engine system components thereby reducing costs and prolonging operation time.
